Friends, Lovers and Animal Rescues!
This is the 4th book in a series that is part of a greater interconnected universe. This book and story does stand alone. It is my first entry into the world and though I know there are other stories to learn based on all the characters around our focal couple, some exist and others are still yet to happen. The way it's written makes you want to explore and dig but doesn't leave you confused if you're just starting out.
Naomi is happy in her small town where she knows everyone and they know her. She likes keeping her head down and supporting her friends and family. She has her reasons and She's been friends with Donovan since he came to town and joined her gang of crazy. However he doesn't realize she's also been in love with him for almost as long.
Donovan has always been on the move, no home to speak of, always wherever he was needed to save animals and promote animal welfare issues. He's well known and only a temporary fixture in this crazy town with all it's wonderful people and crazy animals. He's trying to decide if he's ready to settle down or if he still feels that wandering spirit that could drive him partway around the world, far away from Naomi.
There were lots of characters (2 legged and 4) that I want to hear more about. This world just sucked me in and even though I didn't need to know the rest to enjoy, I was laughing out loud at some points and I just know there's more to the overall universe. I now crave more of the goats and all the awesome ladies of that group. I will be diving deep into Erin's backlist now.
The audio for this was performed by Jason Clarke & Zara Eden. Jason brings his usual deep and soothing voice to play and it just shimmies down my spine. I love Jason's voice and this performance was no different, there was bravado, sexy talk, compassion and tenderness. Zara brought a beautifully subtle bayou accent out to play for Naomi. There were emotional moments as she battled her personal demons as well as some very authoritative moments when she's all fire and passion.
