After a secret Chinese military project beams a message into space, things get weird: Scientists begin killing themselves, a researcher keeps seeing a countdown everywhere he looks, and a virtual reality game set on a world with three suns becomes increasingly popular. And although these spooky harbingers indicate that destructive aliens are on their way, some on Earth might welcome that outcome. Narrator Luke Daniels provides an entire cast of voices from around the planet—and off it. (His portrayal of an alien invader will likely spook the heck out of you.) This is a fresh take on a common science fiction trope, as well as a meditation on the legacy of China’s Cultural Revolution. Well Worth It
This (audio)book is for you if you love sci-fi books about humanity, rather than in-depth individual characters.
The narrator does an awesome job, the voices sound natural AND distinct, without being overdone.
Definitely one of my comfort listens. I can’t rate this highly enough!
Disjointed
This book is disjointed and over rated. The narration is lacking in conviction and the storyline is convoluted.
