Fascinating!
This book went way behind the scenes and digs deep. Did you know that in the opening credits of the office is home video shot by John Krasinski? When he got the role, his first major role, he drove to Scranton from New York and the opening shot of the Scranton sign is from that home video. The Office is, ironically, considering it is Based on another TV series, Unique in television history. And it is because of the people involved. Greg Daniels, the producer, creator and visionary behind the American version, had a completely different way of working than on typical series. Collaboration was brought to a heightened level, ideas could come from anywhere, the show was organic in its process. To understand how different the show was, and the reason for its enduring and increasingly powerful legacy, makes this book Interesting in a way most “Hollywood” books do not achieve. The interviews in this book are presented via subject categories so you have hair and make up people talking about the reality Greg Daniels and the directors were aiming at, along with wardrobe and camera departments as well as the actors. The collaboration of the series is reflected in the wide ranging interviews of crew, cast, writers, directors, producers, and network executives who made The Office possible. Great book!
