100 New Yorkers of the 1970s

This book represents a compilation of interviews that the author Max Millard conducted as his first serious assignment in New York. They present his first professional work as a journalist.

Max Millard came to New York City in November 1976, when he was 26 years old. He came with the intention to become a full-time writer. As every beginning, his beginning too was hard.  His articles and columns written for small local papers were not paid. He was amused by New York and had explored both sides of it. Luckily, his talent to write very fast helped him to find a more serious job as a secretary of Linda Grover, who was a scriptwriter for the soap opera “The Doctors”. After working for her, for several months, she accepted a new job as a head writer for another soap opera. Being aware of his talent, Linda has recommended him to Bruce. Then his life changed. He became a real journalist. He worked for the local newspaper “West Side TV Shopper” as a journalist. The interviews found in this book were published as cover stories for the paper.

Millard got an assignment to find the biggest names in that time, to interview them and write a story of 900 words. During his assignment, he wrote around 210 interviews, from which the best 100 are published in this book.
