When her parents unexpectedly disappeared after the fall of Saigon in 1975, little Mai finds herself left behind  in Vietnam at the mercy of an evil Aunt.  Despite being forced into child labor at the young age of 5, Mai continues to stay positive and focus on being the best person she could. Mai’s luck begin to change after her grandmother’s continued effort to help Mai get sponsored to America.  In America, Mai was able to finally focus on her education and became a success.
