This anthology of newly translated Yiddish works of poetry, fiction, and memoir by women writers takes the reader from the Soviet Union, where families struggle to survive and to live their lives as Jews; to the Warsaw Ghetto, where heroic librarians distribute books to Jewish children; to Los Angeles, where the destruction of a community to make way for a freeway is described in tones reminiscent of Holocaust poetry.
