Former friends turned lovers and a billionaire who changes both their lives with an inheritance…what more could two people want?
In the newest installment of the beloved Hidden Cove Series, Dan Collins is everybody’s favorite firefighter. He’s good at his job, is a nice guy and treats people well. But his life fell apart a year ago when his wife left him for a wealthy man. Thank God Dan has had Firefighter Lucy Coretta to lean on, both at work and at home. She’s brought him back from the brink of despair and has been there for him during all those horrible months after the divorce.
Unbeknownst to him, Lucy has been in love with him forever but kept it to herself. Then, when he split with his wife, she didn’t want to be a rebound girlfriend. One night, though, passion explodes between them and by the morning everything has changed. And not just in their relationship. A man comes to the door and hands Dan an inheritance from a wealthy billionaire for saving the lives of his godchildren years ago. It’s money, lots and lots of money.
Unfortunately, the windfall doesn’t bring him happiness. It messes up all his newly made plans with Lucy and throws them both into a tailspin.
Praise for Kathryn Shay’s firefighter series:
“I couldn't put these books down. I'm a firefighter in Tennessee; some of this hit home to me. Thank you for a great series.”
“This collection of short stories had it all: mystery, romance, laughter and tears.”
“The stories not only get into firefighter’s lives, but there is very realistic and in-depth descriptions of the work they do and the training they undergo. It certainly gave me an even greater appreciation for our firefighters and policemen.”

An excellent debut to an innovative new series!
A BURNING PASSION is the first book of the new THE INHERITANCE SERIES, as well as book 8 in Kathryn Shay’s Hidden Cove Firefighters series. THE INHERITANCE SERIES is an interesting concept, where several authors reprise characters from their own series, but where billionaire Harold Hopewell upon his death, has left bequests that will change many lives.
Daniel Collins has been divorced from his wife Clare for about a year; she had said she was sick and tired of not being able to live the way she was accustomed to, given her posh upbringing, and she left Dan for a rich man. Dan never really saw it coming, and it was a good thing he had his friend and colleague Lucy to lean on in his time of need. Lucy has been in love forever with Dan, but never said a word: first, he was married, then she wouldn’t be a rebound girlfriend. Dan stayed on rather friendly terms with Clare, mostly because of his two children whom he dotes on. One evening, Lucy’s unrequited love takes a turn for the better with Dan, until the latter hears that he has inherited a whole lot of money, and Clare is on his trail upon hearing this and determined to make them a family once again.
A BURNING PASSION takes place in Hidden Cove, NY; being unfamiliar with Ms. Shay’s series, I was pleasantly surprised that I did not feel lost, but rather very comfortable with the firefighters of Station 11. The characters are so well drawn out, that I felt I knew them well right away, and I loved the banter between all of them. The author’s familiarity with the workings of a fire department is also obvious, because I’ve never been in one and I felt I knew how everything worked; the rescue sequences are also terrific, especially the one that led to the bequest. I really enjoyed Lucy’s and Dan’s backstories; Lucy’s a pretty wonderful woman, but I felt like slapping Dan more than a few times; you’ll understand why when you read A BURNING PASSION. The fact is, the relationship between Lucy, Dan, and ultimately Clare feels so realistic, and it is complicated and messed up because of Clare, and also because Dan had not stopped loving her until she betrayed him. A BURNING PASSION is a quick read, Ms. Shay’s writing is impeccable, and everything flows very smoothly. I look forward to reading the upcoming books in THE INHERITANCE SERIES, as well as Kathryn Shay’s Hidden Cove Firefighters!
