Publisher Description

The seventh “entertaining” cozy mystery in a series by national–bestselling author Eva Gates [Vicki Delany]“complete with a library, a cat, and a captivating location and sleuth” (Library Journal).

When her former director is found dead in the water, librarian Lucy Richardson must get to the bottom of the mystery before the killer ends her tale.

It’s summertime in the Outer Banks of North Carolina and Bertie James’s college class is having their 40th anniversary reunion. The opening night reception is held at the Lighthouse Library and Lucy and her colleagues have assembled an exhibit of library artifacts showing how libraries have changed over the years. After the reception, some of the women take a walk down the boardwalk to the pier, using flashlights to illuminate the dark path, but what's scarier than the dark is finding the former director of the Lighthouse Library floating lifeless in the water.

Helena Sanchez, the former director, wasn’t much loved and spent the party being rude to almost everyone there. As a result, Lucy finds herself in deep water as she rocks the boat, questioning several suspects. But she'll have to batten down the hatches and fast before she's left high and dry . . . and right in the killer’s crosshairs.

Once again, I was swept up

Once again, I was swept up in the goings on at the Lighthouse Library. I’ve come to expect that I will get caught up in the social whirl and will get taken on an adventure, that while I was anticipating, I wasn’t expecting in the least. I give huge credit to the author, at no point was I able to outthink the plot, which frustrates me but also makes me very happy. In fact, I was so caught up by some of the sparkly red herrings that I was exceedingly irate when the characters continued to follow the trail of the real clues. There were several spelling and grammatical mistakes that pulled me out of the story – particularly character names, but since what I read was an advanced copy of this book, I’m hoping they will have been corrected before publication. However, it’s not going to keep me from reading more of this series, because the ever-evolving saga of Connor and Lucy has me charmed and quite thoroughly hooked. I can’t wait to see what comes next.
I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book through Netgalley.
