Publisher Description
“A Drive Into the Gap” is a story about baseball. About fathers and sons. It’s about memory and identity, and an insidious illness that can rob a person of both.
It’s also a detective story, an investigation into the improbable journey of a baseball bat from one of the most iconic moments in baseball history to a 12-year-old boy’s bedroom.

Fantastic
I'm not really a baseball fan, but I found this story of a son's search for the truth around a famous bat, of his father as he falls into the darkness of Alzheimer's, and of the way sports can tie us together fascinating. A touching remembrance that is also about how we remember, a story that is itself about storytelling.
A tremendous read.
Yes, there's baseball talk here, but this is a book about storytelling shared across a generation. Heartening and funny, with a warranted touch of melancholy. A Drive Into The Gap makes you want to keep a diary, even if to embellish your life just a touch.
