In this cozy historical mystery, a former British intelligence officer finds herself drawn into a murder investigation. When World War II ends, exhausted ex-spy Lane Winslow decides to get as far away from Europe as possible, moving to the tiny rural village of King’s Cove, British Columbia. But when the local police discover a dead body—who turns out to be another former British agent—Lane is sucked right back into her dangerous line of work. Author Iona Whishaw has a clever eye for both historical detail and on-point twists. But her characters, especially the tough but wounded Lane and the well-mannered, charming Inspector Darling, are the best thing about the story. This endearing period whodunit will delight fans of Maisie Dobbs and Inspector Gamache.

A killer in King’s Cove
I really enjoyed this - it’s a light read, with interesting characters and a good mystery. I like Lane, the main character - and her unique spy role in WW2. The novel is a glimpse into recent Canadian/British history and the post-war society. If you live in BC, or have traveled through this part of BC, you’ll appreciate the setting. I’ll be reading the next 2 in the series.
