Struggling cartoonist Michael Loca has three loves: his art, classic science fiction, and his childhood best friend, star biochemist Jenna Warner. But afraid to jeopardize their friendship, Michael holds back from telling Jenna how he feels.

When Jenna receives an offer of a seat on a manned mission to Mars, Michael finds himself caught between staying silent and supporting her dream, and confessing his love to her. But sharing his feelings just as she leaves on a five-year mission seems not only selfish, but foolish. Reluctantly, Michael says nothing, much to his regret.

However, a recent archaelogical discovery and a friend's scientific research could give Michael a chance to confess his love to Jenna. Although it means traveling to an alternate universe with untested tech and unknown consequences.
