A New Hope

After her father dies in a construction accident, Ri Hyang and her mother struggle to survive in North Korea. They decide to escape the country and are helped by Seung-Ho, Ri Hyang’s childhood friend and a border guard.


A New Hope was written by a winner of Ripple Foundation’s Kids Write 4 Kids creative writing contest, an annual nationwide challenge for students in Grades 4–8. More than a story, this book celebrates the creativity and imagination of young Canadian writers. Proceeds from all Kids Write 4 Kids books are donated to the winner’s charity of choice.


About the Author

Sophie Fifen is a Grade 6 student from Fort St. John, British Columbia, and a winner of Ripple Foundation’s Kids Write 4 Kids creative writing contest. She enjoys writing stories that explore courage, hope, and perseverance.
