Strong characters, empowered children
Lois Peterson has a unique talent. Her child characters find themselves in difficult situations to which any young reader can relate. Without sugar coating or coddling, her characters dig deep to discover their own strengths, to overcome their problems -- excellent role models.
In A Star in the Water, Tansy, the charming protagonist of Meeting Miss 405 (Orca Book Publishers), summons all her gumption to overcome her fear of the water.
Highly recommended. Stands alone, but makes a delightful companion to Peterson's earlier novel.
