Publisher Description

In the summer of 1991 I was a normal kid. I did normal things. I had friends and a mother who loved me. I was just like you. Until the day my life was stolen.

For eighteen years I was a prisoner. I was an object for someone to use and abuse.

For eighteen years I was not allowed to speak my own name. I became a mother and was forced to be a sister. For eighteen years I survived an impossible situation.

On August 26, 2009, I took my name back. My name is Jaycee Lee Dugard. I don’t think of myself as a victim. I survived.

A Stolen Life is my story—in my own words, in my own way, exactly as I remember it.

The pine cone is a symbol that represents the seed of a new beginning for me. To help facilitate new beginnings, with the support of animal-assisted therapy, the J A Y C Foundation provides support and services for the timely treatment of families recovering from abduction and the aftermath of traumatic experiences—families like my own who need to learn how to heal. In addition, the J A Y C Foundation hopes to facilitate awareness in schools about the important need to care for one another.

Our motto is “Just Ask Yourself to . . . Care!”

A portion of my proceeds from this memoir will be donated to The J A Y C Foundation Inc.

A stolen life.

Amazing story of all this girl and her family have overcome. Hard to put down once you start but some parts were very hard to read. Having a little girl of my own it is hard not to hate these sick people for what they did. Jaycee's courage is amazing and so encouraging. Amazing story. Have a tissue box nearby.

A Stolen Life

Jaycee's story is heart wrenching. I could not put this book down. This is a story of a survivor. A special human being who I have no doubt will achieve greatness and happiness.

Amazing!

I was not sure if I wanted to read this book. I was a coward. I truly feel sick when human kind abuses children, elderly and animals!

I am also a mother and a mother hen at that! And to think of what her mother went through is unbearable! I commend her for doing and surviving a parents worse nightmare!

JAYCEE'S book is at times sad, frustrating, knowledgeable, gut wrenching, and inspirational!

As crazy as it sounds I believe those animals came into her life for a reason. Something bigger than us all was watching over her! I don't know why "she" or anyone else has to be one to endure such horrors from two very demented and evil people! But fact is she did. She did receive two blessings from that ordeal: her daughters!

In my opinion the police and parole officers failed her! Hopefully her story will inspire those in that profession to not cut corners or be swayed by the words of any man or woman on parole.

I hope that people do not judge any of her actions while in captivity!!! Unless you walk in her shoes or live what she survived you have no right to question anything she did to survive !

The book itself is raw, real and a mixture of emotions . Jaycee is a natural born writer!

I hope the two - they don't deserve to be named, rot in hell. What they did is inexcusable, I don't care what doctor will say he was mentally, because if he knew his actions were wrong then the knew exactly what he was doing!

I pray Jaycee and her family live out the rest of their lives in peace and always be surrounded by loved ones!
