"Opening my eyes was one of the most difficult things I'd ever done. My lids weighed a ton each. I struggled to focus. That's when I realized I was face-down, staring at the floor. I wasn't afraid or even concerned. I was puzzled. I lay motionless in that position, hardly breathing, trying to understand what was happening. As my vision cleared, I saw the tips of black shoes only inches from my fingers."
