A Walk Between the Winds

Haunted by a Spirit Warrior, Soft Morning Mist, a young woman of the Skuna River Chickasaw tribe, feels trapped into a marriage she does not want.

During the tribe’s marriage ceremony, her friend, Swamp Lily, disappears. Soft Morning Mist suspects foul play after a lecherous, old man from the Hatchie River tribe accosts her. Following the mournful howls of a dog, Soft Morning Mist finds Swamp Lily floating in the river. As rumors of suicide circle the village, she fights to prove her friend was murdered.
Holding an age-old grudge against Soft Morning Mist, Calling Blue Jay seeks to destroy her. With the help of her daughter, Broken Birch, who is believed to be a witch, they hatch a plan for Soft Morning Mist to be captured and sacrificed by the Natchez. As she awaits her fate, Soft Morning Mist learns that the Spirit Warrior of her dreams is the new Natchez ruler. Recognizing her from his own dreams, he spares her from sacrifice with one hitch—she must become his wife. Torn between him and the family she loves, Soft Morning Mist must make a decision that, in the end, brings her face to face with Swamp Lily’s killer.
