A Worcestershire Parish at War is a unique and intimate portrait of ordinary people like Ellen and Walter Gibbs-their family, friends and local community-and their day to day struggles during the period 1914-1919 as their young men went to fight and came back changed, or not at all. It offers surprising revelations about the prevailing attitudes of the time from Church and State, and allows us to experience the emotional highs and lows of the common man during one of the darkest periods in our history. It also offers us hope for the future knowing how much the human spirit can bear and how any one of us can, with grit and determination, overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles.
