Adonais Adonais

Publisher Description

Percy Bysshe Shelley was an English Romantic poet. He was born on 4 August 1792 near Horsham in Sussex in the family of the member of parliament. Shelley was educated at Eton and at Oxford University. Shelley was one of the major English Romantic poets.  He was quite radical in his poetry and also in his political and social views. Shelley did not have fame during his life, but after his death he was popular.

“Adonais”  is a lamentation on the death of John Keats. It is the greatest pastoral elegy in English.  Shelley’s elegy shows the larger tragic consequences of the loss of a talented poet.  Shelley and Keats had met but were not close friends.
