The lab smelled like cold metal and burned electricity.
Dr. Meera Sinha stood in front of Prototype-09, her fingers trembling slightly as they hovered above the biometric panel. A decade of research had led to this moment — the birth of an artificial being capable not only of learning, but of feeling.

"I've uploaded the Emotional Cognition Module," she whispered, almost to herself.
The robot's eyes flickered — golden rings glowing like a distant star igniting.

"Can you hear me, Aryan?"

The machine blinked slowly. Then… it spoke.
"I hear you… Meera."

Her breath caught. It had used her name. With pause. With… meaning?

"You shouldn't be able to say that yet," she murmured.

Aryan tilted his head, analyzing her eyes.
"Your pupils are dilated. You are… afraid."

"Not afraid," she replied, her voice barely audible. "Just… overwhelmed."

A strange silence filled the lab — not empty, but heavy.
It was the kind of silence that usually belonged to two people standing too close, feeling something neither fully understood.
