Publisher Description
This late nineteenth century album contains photographs of monuments, churches and other striking architectural details from various cities in Germany, Italy and Egypt – so called ‘Europe’ of 1891. Several handsome German fountains are featured, and a page of hand-written notes that accompanies the album identifies one fountain by Boheim the Navigator in 1385, while another in bronze by a pupil of Peter Vischer. The album follows a tour sequentially through Germany, Italy (Rome, Florence, Naples) and Egypt, and the collated images are most likely a souvenir from a Grand Tour of Europe during this period.
