When young Callie Barrington and her infant son are caught in a freak spring storm in the Colorado Rockies, leaving the question of survival in Callie’s hands alone, an inspiring and foreign force helps Callie find the strength to save her son and herself. Years later, in the bright daylight of a 1980s-Colorado summer, Callie’s ten-year-old granddaughter Allison “Sunny” Barrington is victim of a violent and brutal rape, and left for dead beside a country road. By the will of the same mysterious force, Callie manages Allison’s miraculous rescue. As the years pass by, Allison becomes more and more embroiled in emotional storms from the assault, and Callie’s love is the only balm.
