An Amber Scent

Amber Green is 15 years old and lives in a small, boring town in Lincolnshire. A loner, she writes poetry and plays the organ. Her music teacher pairs her up with another organ student to learn duets for a concert. Amber does not want to be paired with anybody, and definitely not with a boy. Despite their differences (“chalk and cheese,” Amber says), they work on their music, but personal and family issues intrude. At home Amber spends time with her 10 year old sister. Their older sisters have left home and their mother has her own problems, so the girls live on takeaways and watch too much television. Amber's music parter, Nick, is an only child also living with his mother. Amber's inquisitiveness reveals a family even more dysfunctional than her own.
