तसलिमा नासरिन यांच्या ‘लज्जा’ कादंबरीतील इस्लामविरोधी मजकुरामुळे मूलतत्त्ववाद्यांनी बांगलादेशात रान उठवलं. त्या पार्श्वभूमीवर तसलिमा फ्रान्सला गेलेल्या असताना त्या फ्रान्सभेटीचा वृतान्त त्यांनी आत्मवृत्ताच्या या भागात दिला आहे. तसेच फ्रान्सहून आल्यावर पोलिसांनी त्यांच्यासाठी काढलेले अजामीनपात्र अटक-वॉरन्ट, त्यापासून वाचण्यासाठी त्यांना करावे लागलेले पलायन, त्या दरम्यान त्यांनी वेगवगळ्या घरांमध्ये घेतलेला आश्रय आणि त्या दिवसांमधलं त्यांचं जगणं, त्यांच्या मनोवेदना, त्यांची तडफड, मूलतत्त्ववाद्यांनी त्यांना फाशी देण्यात यावी यासाठी काढलेले मोर्चे, केलेला रक्तपात, तसलिमांच्या वकिलांनी त्यांच्या जामिनासाठी चालवलेली खटपट, मूलतत्त्ववाद्यांना विरोध करणार्यांची निष्प्रभता, तसलिमांच्या सुरक्षिततेसाठी अमेरिकेसह काही देशांनी उठवलेला आवाज आणि शेवटी तसलिमांनी बांगलादेश सोडून जावा, या अटीवर त्यांना मिळालेला जामीन आणि त्यांना देशाचा करावा लागलेला त्याग इ. बाबतचं सुन्न करणारं कथन.

Due to the anti-Islam content in Taslima Nasrin's novel 'Lajja', fundamentalists created a furore in Bangladesh. Against this backdrop, Taslima visited France, and she recounts this visit in this part of her autobiography. The book also describes the non-bailable arrest warrant issued against her by the police upon her return from France, her subsequent escape to avoid arrest, the various houses where she sought refuge during that time, her life during those days, her mental anguish, her struggles, the demonstrations and bloodshed orchestrated by fundamentalists demanding her execution, the efforts of Taslima's lawyers to secure her bail, the ineffectiveness of those opposing the fundamentalists, the support raised by some countries, including the United States, for Taslima's safety, and finally, the bail granted to her on the condition that she leave Bangladesh, and her subsequent forced exile from the country. It is a poignant and chilling narrative of these events.
