The delightful second regency romance in the Palace of Rogues series (after Lady Derring Takes a Lover) returns to the converted London boardinghouse that once was the Palace of Rogues, but shifts focus onto co-owner Angelique Breedlove. Angelique's determination to build a respectable reputation is threatened when the notoriously rakish Lucien Durand, who has been presumed dead for 10 years, requests a room at the Palace. Lucien has returned to London to seek revenge on those who drove him away, but he becomes more invested in Angelique and the other inhabitants of the boarding house than in revisiting his past. Angelique and Lucien are sides of a coin, both seeking to overcome shadowy pasts but with vastly different approaches. The growing relationships between the illegitimate Lucien and his legitimate half-brother and between Angelique and her clumsy maidservant add depth to the story, while Long's focus on the lives of the middle-class lodgers at the Palace is refreshing. Readers will enjoy this rich depiction of how the past informs but does not dictate the future.

Never a dull moment
“Angel in the Devil’s Arms” is the second book in Julie Anne Long’s The Palace of Rogues series. Long continues building upon a marvellous foundation of romance, adventure, and characters who will steal your heart. She brings to life people from another world, another time, and yet they feel like people I could easily know and definitely care for.
The Grand Palace on the Thames is a place where I love to visit, if for no other reason to catch up up on the sometimes quiet yet always fascinating, and just plain interesting, goings-on.
This, like the others, is one those books to which I will go back every now and again, and which will always be a fresh escapade.
Absolutely Wonderful
I received an ARC of this book to read through Edelweiss+ in exchange for a fair review. Angel In A Devil’s Arms is the second book in Julie Anne Long’s delightful series The Palace of Rogues. I do think that in order to properly enjoy this book you need to read the first book. Angelique Breedlove left destitute when her protector died has reached a point where she is starting to feel secure, she has good friends, a lovely place to live, a successful business and she’s beginning to dream of better things when Lucien Durand, Lord Bolt arrives to be the new tenant in their boarding house and shakes up her hard won equilibrium with his very presence. Lucien has returned from the dead a wealthy man after an absence of 10 years, and his purpose for returning is to seek revenge on those who had him tossed in the Thames all those years ago. One of the things I loved most about this story is that when Angelique uncomfortable with the intensity of the chemistry they generate between them asks him to be her friend he agrees and they do become friends making the long slow burn of their romance a wonderful thing.
