Anthony Lyveden

Dornford Yates is the pseudonym of the English novelist - Cecil William Mercer, whose novels and short stories, including humorous and thrillers, were best-sellers in the period between the First and Second world wars.  Mercer originally wrote short stories for the monthly magazines. 

Anthony Lyveden was Yates’s first novel, telling the story of an impoverished ex-officer; it ends in a cliff-hanger. Originally, it was published in monthly installments in the Windsor Magazine. This is a very good story that is very well told in Dornford Yates’ meticulous, Edwardian style. Dornford Yates wrote about the privileged lives of a group of people. It is a fascinating story and the characters are very likable and sometimes hilarious. Start reading this incredible book and you will be sufficiently impressed enough to want to read more!
