Africa's extraordinary resource wealth has resulted in an historical legacy of violent exploitation that has left the continent in social tatters, and the inhabitants traumatized by over a century of war and conflict and dislocated in inefficiently planned urban and political spaces. Colonial and neo-colonial traces in documents, literature and photographs inform contemporary African artists, whose works respond to these issues.
