How can she become a new version of herself when she’s married to her past?
After two of his buddies found love through the military's matchmaking program, Lucas Craiger decides to give it a shot. He’s not necessarily looking for love, just companionship and a kind, reliable stepmom for his young son. When he’s assigned to his high school sweetheart who shattered his heart, his plan for an uncomplicated relationship becomes acutely complicated.
Riley Thompson signed up for the matchmaking program because she needs a fresh start—and the health insurance. She desperately wants to build a life with a man where her autoimmune disease doesn’t define her and she can prove herself. But being matched with Lucas isn’t the new beginning she wanted. He’s the love of her life she let go when she was first diagnosed.
Lucas is determined to make the most of this second chance with Riley, but when his custody battle heats up, his new marriage isn't the only relationship in jeopardy.

Really enjoyed it
Really enjoyed this book & this series. It’s a strange thought that the military would match people up for marriage but it’s made for some very interesting matches & Riley & Lucas are definitely the most interesting. I have to wonder if the committee knew of their past when putting them to be together. Theirs is a history of love & pain, when Riley has to make a decision so as not to burden Lucas with her health problems. For Lucas being told he wasn’t good enough set him on a path that saw him married, divorced & now in a military matchup program hoping to find someone he could be good enough for. What he doesn’t expect is to be matched with his ex girlfriend & the love of his life. They slowly work their way into a relationship & things seem to be going good until they’re not. Secrets are abound on both sides & eventually everything blows up around them including Riley’s health & Lucas’s custody of his son as wrong steps are made & hurtful things said. I really enjoyed how author Paris Wynters focused the drama on the continuing issue of stubbornness in this relationship. Stubbornness in letting each other see their true feelings of pain, love & fear, from both sides as they fumble around in their relationship. Definitely recommend to read. Thank you to Tule publishing for letting me read this book for an honest review.
