Publisher Description
This story is based upon the diary of Second Lieutenant Samuel P. Heintzelman, United States Army, who graduated from West Point early in the nineteenth century. His diary describes three hard years of service at Fort Gratiot, Michigan Territory. This was an outpost on the Old Northwestern Frontier located at the present site of Port Huron. The characters in this novel are fictitious. I especially desire to stress that the activities of the character, Second Lieutenant Andrew Raeburn, are not the activities of Samuel Heintzelman.
