Publisher Description
When aerial photographer, David R Abram, started taking pictures of prehistoric tombs, burial mounds and megalithic circles across Britain, he made an extraordinary discovery: most were set very deliberately in relation to each other and their surrounding landforms, creating sequences that could still be experienced on foot.
By walking these so-called 'ceremonial landscapes', he learned, it is possible to re-gain a sense of a forgotten 'sacred geography'. Via sites from Bodmin Moor to the Orkney Islands, 'Barrowlands' tells the story of this journey of re-discovery, leading us through the epochs of the distant past towards a new way of experiencing the British landscape - and, ultimately, a deeper understanding of how - and why - it was our ancestors 'knew all the best places'.
