The author of this album, Charles Chauderlot, is a famous Spanish painter of Spanish origin. In the past few years his paintings have centered on old Beijing, so recording the historical changes that have taken place in the old capital. This album is a collection of his paintings that combine Chinese ink-and-wash and Western watercolor techniques. It comprises a text of 30,000 Chinese characters and 150 paintings, and quotations from the works of renowned novelist Lao She.
