Bill Jordon and his Uncle Sam live on a ranch in the West with his trick pony Ginger, and they get a job as the closing act with the circus. Trouble is, Ginger is afraid of elephants, and the circus has a few elephants in its show.

About the author:

Sanford Tousey (1883-1961) was born on May 28, 1883 in Kansas, a place filled with cowboys and Indians, and his father's thoroughbred horses. When Tousey was eight, the family moved to Indiana, where he would often visit his grandfather's ranch near the Potawatami Indian Reservation. Tousey’s talent at illustration was obvious from an early age; he won a drawing competition in 1902. Tousey paid his way through the Art Institute of Chicago by selling his illustrations—political cartoons for the Anderson Morning Herald. He finished art school in Paris and before long settled into a career as a freelance illustrator and cartoonist in New York. Although Tousey was a city dweller for most of his life, he continued to draw the inspiration for his books from rural life.
