Publisher Description

The prequel story to the award-winning and bestselling video game franchise. How the majesty of Rapture, the shining city below the sea, became an instant dystopia

It's the end of World War II. FDR's New Deal has redefined American politics. Taxes are at an all-time high. The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki has brought a fear of total annihilation. The rise of secret government agencies and sanctions on business has many watching their backs. America's sense of freedom is diminishing…and many are desperate to take that freedom back.

Among them is a great dreamer, an immigrant who pulled himself from the depths of poverty to become one of the wealthiest and admired men in the world. That man is Andrew Ryan, and he believed that great men and women deserve better. And so he set out to create the impossible, a utopia free from government, censorship, and moral restrictions on science—where what you give is what you get. He created Rapture—the shining city below the sea.

But as we all know, this utopia suffered a great tragedy. This is the story of how it all came to be…and how it all ended.

Great Read! Not for everyone though!

I loved this book as a fan! I am a big fan of the Bioshock video game Franchise and when I heard there was a novel for fans to read, I had to get my hands on it!

As a reader, the pacing can be slow and then FAST all of a sudden! There are four main characters to keep track of, and each perspective you take jumps ahead a bit, one minute a character is chatting up another character the next time you see them their married! I didn’t mind it too much but it did take me awhile to adjust.

I have some problems with a book as a fan and as a reader, like one of the main characters not getting as much time as the other three, I won’t go too in-depth but as a reader and as fan it left me a bit sad that I didn’t get to see more of him.

And a misuse of some characters, mostly side characters. Two I’m thinking of that aren’t like their video game counter parts but that’s just a tiny complaint, it doesn’t ruin the story at all, just something I noticed.

But overall, this book is a great read for fans of Bioshock to finally satisfy their quench for more content and for readers who want a story about human Hubris and Neglect about a beautiful underwater city that was doomed to fail…!

I love this book but giving it a 4/5 stars just cause.

Very impressive

After reading through the book, I was shocked by the high quality of the writing, complex characters, intricate story line, and beautiful atmosphere. It leads to this being one of my favourite books of all time!
