Very impressive work. The writing is very evocative and many of the characters are quite interesting. The writing in all lower case is a very powerful technique. Not sure if I ever saw that before. It does allow for more flexibility in word play (“i have to find grace”). The other thing about the lower case is that it forces the reader to pay more attention to the words and story. I definitely like it. I think the stories are really well done. My favorite has to be “negotiating kala.” Of all the short stories it is the least pessimistic/lighter in my opinion. The male character actually seems to do something selfless in setting the female free to try and find some form of happiness. Although what I can discern of her character that seems like a highly unlikely outcome. The other stories seemed to me much darker, although many were filled with dark humor. – Nosa Omoregie (New Rochelle, New York. 2012)
This collection of short stories will resonate with readers in that it has an eclectic quality to it while bringing a unique style to short story writing in Botswana – the use of music. The author’s stories are marvelous interpretations of a society caught up in a mixture of its own vice and search for self understanding. As the symbolic title proclaims, one will indeed have the urge to read till the very end. – Wazha Lopang (Gaborone 2013)
