Ryan O’Neal’s intimate memoir of his turbulent and passionate love story with Farrah Fawcett
Ryan O’Neal and Farrah Fawcett. He was the handsome Academy Award–nominated star of Paper Moon and the classic romance Love Story. She was the beautiful, all-American Charlie’s Angel, whose poster adorned the bedroom walls of teenage boys everywhere. One of the most storied love affairs in Hollywood history, their romance has captivated fans and media alike for more than three decades. In a tragic turn, the world lost Farrah after a tragic battle with cancer in 2009, but in his intimate memoir Both of Us, Ryan brings their relationship to vivid life.
Fans of each other from afar, Ryan and Farrah met through her husband, Lee Majors, and fell passionately in love. Soon, however, reality threatened their happiness and they struggled with some serious matters, including the disintegration of Farrah’s marriage; Ryan’s troubled relationship with his daughter, Tatum, and son, Griffin; mismatched career trajectories; and raising their young son, Redmond—all leading Ryan and Farrah to an inevitable split in 1997.
Ryan fought to create a life on his own but never stopped longing for Farrah. Eventually he realized that he had lost his true soul mate. Older and wiser, he and Farrah found their way back to each other and were excited to start a new life together. But their bliss was cut short when Farrah was diagnosed with cancer and passed away just three years later.
Ryan’s deep love for Farrah and his devotion to preserving her memory are evident in Both of Us. Drawing on decades’ worth of personal records and keepsakes, he has included never-before-seen photographs, letters exchanged between him and Farrah, and his own diaries, making this a poignant and compelling memento for her fans. Written with candor and emotional honesty, it is a true Hollywood love story.
Customer Reviews
In correct fact but clearly shows deep love
The ghost writer said Farrah came back for 4 more episodes of Charlie’s Angels; Farrah came back for 6 special guest episodes starting in season 3 all the way to season 4. It is easy enough to check on the Charlie’s Angels’ Fandom Wiki website. I’m sure there are more alternate facts in this book. Other than this, since I can only confirm one public error—-the number of times Farrah returned to Charlie’s Angels—it is very clear that Ryan O’Neil loves Farrah Fawcett deeply for majority of his adult life. It really helped to read some of Farrah’s notes which clearly shows she really loved Ryan. I didn’t know Tatum O’Neil was such a nightmare. Tatum and Griffin are lost causes. As for Redmond, Farrah is right when she wrote that he is very blessed; it’s too bad he’s not fighting hard to save his life. He is so opposite of everything Farrah believed on how to live life. There are already too many things that try to hinder every person’s good life; but Redmond keeps choosing to give in to the hindrances of this world. When Farrah first came into this world, she got very sick; but her infant body fought to live. Throughout Farrah’s life severe diseases and sicknesses tried to take Farrah out, but she kept on fighting until cancer had completely drain the life of every part of her body. I knew of Farrah Fawcett as a good actress and a beautiful woman, reading this book and Alana Stewart’s book has made me truly be highly inspired by Farrah Fawcett. Now, I have come to deeply respect Farrah Fawcett. She is truly the kind of person that a person can truly respect and love. People like Tatum O’Neil and other people who have such a dark spirit are the only ones who cannot truly like Farrah because of their own jealousy and lack to help themselves overcome what is lacking in their own individual life, so like Tatum O’Neil, they project their own self-hate on a truly wonderful person that graced this world in the person of Farrah Leni Fawcett. God in heaven bless your soul Farrah Fawcett. God in heaven bless you Ryan O’Neil. Ryan if you ever read this review, I want you to know that no matter what Mr. Lott has been saying about his relationship with Farrah, know that when Farrah was at her most vulnerable, Farrah Fawcett chose you because she knew she could count on you to help her and do what she could not do. I am reminded of you washing by hands her underwear and bra in hotels to save on the very expensive laundry service while staying in hotels. You dealt with Redmond while she was facing her last year. You stepped in to re-do the documentary of Farrah’s Story, and Farrah had just enough strength to see the finished documentary before her body completely lost the battle. Yes, you made lots of mistakes, but you are only human. In your situation, I don’t know how you really could have done better with your 3 out 4 kids. Those 3 kids also have to take responsibility for their own behavior and decisions in the way they live their individual life. Other parents would have cut off their toxic children permanently; you keep giving your children another chance because you love them. Thanks for giving Farrah’s fans a chance to see Farrah as a true human being; so that the dillusion of the beautiful Farrah is broken because Farrah is not just a beautiful image, but is also very human with all the challenges of living in this messed up world. Take good care of yourself too.
What a Life
Just finished reading your love story. What a life! I can relate and when something is shattered you pick up the pieces. Farrah would want that. Take care and thanks for sharing your life in these pages.
