Publisher Description

Brave New World is a novel written in 1931 by Aldous Huxley. Set in London of AD 2540 (632 A.F. - "After Ford") - in the book), the novel anticipates developments in reproductive technology, sleep-learning, psychological manipulation and classical conditioning that combine to profoundly change society. Although the novel is set in the future, it deals with contemporary issues of the early 20th century, particularly how the Industrial Revolution and mass production had transformed the world. Huxley used the setting and characters from his science fiction novel to express widely held opinions, particularly the fear of losing individual identity in the fast-paced world of the future.

Brave New World

Far be it from me to rate a classic piece of work like this, but I actually found it a little tough to digest. In its time, I am sure it was an incredible read, and I can very much appreciate the symbolism, colloquialisms, and deep hidden meanings contained in the book. I am, however, long graduated from University English classes, and do not feel the need for trying to derive hidden meanings from science fiction. I am glad I read it, however, and would urge anybody to do the same.

Cool book, but typos

I’m really liking the book so far, but this edition has a lot of blatant typos. Sentences are sometimes missing beginning or ending qutation marks, and every so often a word will have a random letter that doesn’t belong in it. Pretty lame.
