Publisher Description
New York Times Bestselling Author Sarah MacLean returns with the next book in the Bareknuckle Bastards series about three brothers bound by a secret that they cannot escape—and the women who bring them to their knees.
The Lady’s Plan
When Lady Henrietta Sedley declares her twenty-ninth year her own, she has plans to inherit her father’s business, to make her own fortune, and to live her own life. But first, she intends to experience a taste of the pleasure she’ll forgo as a confirmed spinster. Everything is going perfectly…until she discovers the most beautiful man she’s ever seen tied up in her carriage and threatening to ruin the Year of Hattie before it’s even begun.
The Bastard’s Proposal
When he wakes in a carriage at Hattie’s feet, Whit, a king of Covent Garden known to all the world as Beast, can’t help but wonder about the strange woman who frees him—especially when he discovers she’s headed for a night of pleasure . . . on his turf. He is more than happy to offer Hattie all she desires…for a price.
An Unexpected Passion
Soon, Hattie and Whit find themselves rivals in business and pleasure. She won’t give up her plans; he won’t give up his power . . . and neither of them sees that if they’re not careful, they’ll have no choice but to give up everything . . . including their hearts.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
We love a book that embraces body positivity. Brazen and the Beast stars plus-size heroine Lady Henrietta Sedley, a 29-year-old who’s done with the restrictions of being the daughter of an earl and ready to embark on “The Year of Hattie.” First on her bucket list: ridding herself of her virginity. But she never bargained on getting caught up in a case of mistaken identity and ending up in the arms of a rough-and-tumble smuggler called Beast. We found it refreshing to read about Beast’s unabashed adoration of Hattie. Sarah MacLean’s unconventional romance takes us along on both characters’ journeys to free themselves from familial and societal expectations.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
MacLean's second Bareknuckle Bastards Regency veers away from the typical Regency romance focus on the nobility to explore the lives of London's ordinary folk, populating Covent Garden with delightful recurring characters. Lady Henrietta "Hattie" Sedley is 29 and heartily tired of being seen as "just" a woman. She longs to take over her father's shipping company, but she's hampered by her gender and her ne'er-do-well brother, Augie. While embarking on a plan to enjoy some sensual pleasures in the seedier parts of town, she's dismayed to find that Augie has left Beast, a smuggler and one of the infamous Bareknuckle Bastards, tied up and unconscious in her carriage. She wakes up Beast, kisses him, and tosses him out the door while the carriage is moving, ensuring he'll come looking for her en route to taking revenge on Augie. Hattie finds Beast's good looks and confidence impossibly appealing, and her independence and determination pique his interest. Soon their business fortunes are as entwined as their bodies. The imaginative plot carries readers along in this deliciously sexy story filled with heart.
Customer Reviews
Loved it!
Thoroughly enjoyed this book from the start to end.
Epically historical and thoroughly modern love story.
Sarah’s novels are always an auto-buy without question. So it goes to say I totally love her work. But this book? She was able to weave a story that’s so modern and relevant yet so satisfyingly historical. The partnerships, the any kind of love goes, the highs and lows of falling in love and the internal struggles a curvy woman deals with regardless of what her relationships are telling her. Just so freaking good!
One of the best books I’ve read this year
I received an ARC of this book to read through Edelweiss+ in exchange for a fair review. Brazen and the Beast is the second book in Sarah Maclean’s wonderful Bareknuckle Bastard series. It could be read as a standalone, but you’d be missing out on Wicked and the Wallflower which is an awesome story so I recommend reading both. Lady Henrietta (Hattie) Sedley is tired of not fitting in and she has decided that this year will be her year and she is going after what she wants and she has a four point plan to achieve it… Business, Home, Fortune, Future … but she finds an unconscious man in her carriage on her way to step one … getting rid of her virginity.
Saviour (Whit) Whittington aka Beast is one of the Bareknuckle Bastards who have a hand in every pie in Covent Garden and someone very foolish has stolen from him, knocked him out and injured his men. When he awakens in Hattie’s carriage he has one thought in mind retribution. What he doesn’t realize just yet is that he’s met his match and his equal and his world will never be the same again. Sarah MacLean has written a story that will keep you avidly turning pages filled with danger and passion, a thoroughly nasty villain and a love story that will leave one a little verklempt.
