Brazil-An Interpretation
Although this book is somewhat dated, in its content, it still provides the reader with important insight into the makeup of Brazil. Working on the basic precept that "history is nothing more than a record of the fusion of races", Freyre, the eternal optimist, delves deeply into the sociology, anthropology, human geography, the art, religion and politics...of that time...which was the early 50's. He discusses regionalism, and its effect on Brazil going forward, which I found interesting. His grand vision of any type of working relationship with the U.S. During the continuance of its formation, is way off the mark. Brazil cannot expect, nor get any type of reciprocity or mutual benefit from its big, powerful North American neighbour...Uncle Sam has too much crap of its own to straighten out first.
