“A fun, escapist tale of discovery and second chance love between an endangered widow and an honorable and extremely likable warrior hero.” —Smexy Books
A union born of duty . . .
Newly knighted Sir Ewan Gilroy needs a dowry and a wife, in that order. That the widowed Lady Grace plans to enter a convent, squandering so much lush beauty—and such a fortune—would surely be its own sin. But Grace will not be easily wooed, despite her family's urging and Ewan's famed charm. She challenges him as no woman ever dared, proving his equal in spirit and in passions.
Forged by desire . . .
To atone for her past, Grace vows to never remarry—least of all a brash and reckless warrior. Yet whether defending her honor or stoking desires she hardly knew she possessed, Ewan is a man beyond compare. And as their fragile trust is threatened by treachery, Grace must decide whether to reach for the happiness within her grasp—and fight for the love of her bold Highlander . . .
“Well-developed characters and a strong sense of time and place are just a few of the pluses readers will encounter in Basso's latest smartly written medieval romance.” —Booklist
“An impossible-to-put-down read!” —RT Book Reviews
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Lady Grace Ferguson is a loyal wife to Alastair Ferguson, following his wishes even when he asks her to help him die after a horrific accident. Consumed with guilt and convinced she has to atone for her sin, Grace decides to join a convent. Hoping to stop her, her brother gives Ewan Gilroy permission to court her. Ewan is a charming rogue, and when he starts his campaign to change her mind, Grace is torn between temptation and penance. Ewan refuses to give up when he wants something, and he's decided Grace would be the perfect wife. Ewan is not an archetypal tough Highlander but a romantic, happy to spend time with his intended and hopeful about falling in love. Grace needs Ewan to protect her from an enemy bent on vengeance, but the threat is too absurd to be believable. Grace and Ewan are joyous together, but there is nothing riveting about this saccharine romance as it plods toward fulfilling every single one of Grace's hopes and dreams.

Second reading
Read this book twice & is considered one of my favorites. A beautiful love story with its struggles & victories. You can not help but cheer for Ewan, a man of very humble origines & experiences. He finds his challenging mate & they find their happy ever after. While reading you could feel the tug & pull between both. And in the end you feel a release of peace knowing they are happily married. As this book is one of my favorites, I will be reading it again. It was so enjoyable!
