Bright Wings

Bright Wings is a caterpillar with a most unsuitable name. He is not especially bright, he certainly has no wings, and he spends most of his days eating leaves while trying not to become someone else's dinner.

His friends—Bandit the Beetle and Caspar the Chongololo—cannot explain his peculiar name either. Then an unexpected encounter with Teddy the Tarantula reveals something Bright Wings has never imagined: every creature is born with a dream inside them, but very few ever discover what it is.

As a strange feeling begins to awaken within him, Bright Wings seeks the wisdom of Gecko the Gecko. He soon becomes convinced that he is destined to be a magnificent Sky-eater. After saying goodbye to his friends, he finds a safe place beneath a strong leaf and trusts his dream to know what to do.

Filled with lovable forest creatures, gentle suspense, playful humour and wonderfully invented words, Bright Wings is a warm-hearted story about friendship, courage and transformation. It reminds young readers that becoming something new does not mean forgetting where we came from—or those we love.
