Publisher Description
Decades of silence. A shocking discovery. Some secrets refuse to stay buried.
True crime writer Dougal Lachlan swore he'd never set foot in Twisted Cedars again. Not even for his sister's upcoming wedding. But an email promising the story of a lifetime pulls him back to his hometown against his better judgement.
Thirty years ago, five librarians were murdered across quiet coastal towns in Oregon, leaving a trail of unsolved mysteries. All signs point to a serial killer.
As Dougal plunges into the investigation, he enlists the help of local librarian Charlotte Hammond who, prefers her mysteries between the covers of a good book, since the disappearance of her older sister, Daisy.
The more they dig, the more buried secrets they unearth only to realize nothing is quite what it seems, and the danger may be closer to home than they thought…
Twisted Cedar Mysteries:
Book 1: Buried
Book 2: Forgotten
Book 3: Exposed
Reviews:
"CJ Carmichael is a seasoned author... and this shows in A Buried Tale. She has written a fluid, easy to fall into mystery and I'm really hoping there will be more books in this series. The first installment in the Twisted Cedar Mysteries was a great read and I can't wait for more." - Cozy Reader
"One of my favorite elements of Carmichael's books is her gripping portrayal of family dynamics." Kathy Altman, USA Today

Buried
The first book in a series following a true-crime writer living in Manhattan and dealing with complex feelings about his past, including his aversion to his small Oregon coastal home town; his guilt about leaving his sister, Jamie, to care for their dying mother and then planning and executing her funeral, which Dougal doesn’t even attend; and his disgust with the father who abandoned Dougal and his pregnant mother before landing in prison for killing his second wife. Before long, Dougal arrives back in his old hometown, Twisted Cedars, following up on breadcrumbs thrown by either a crime witness or the killer him- or herself for Dougal’s next true-crime story.
Good pacing, plenty of interesting characters, and a tantalizing mystery or two. Bought the other books once I finished this one. I want to know how it all turns out.
Pleasantly surprised
Great suspenseful writing, really glad I picked this up. Thank you CJ!
Great
Thoroughly enjoyed this. Looked forward to my reading time everyday and didn’t want to put it down. Only 4 starts because I felt like there wasn’t enough closure at the end. But I’m start number 2 now so let’s see where this goes!!
