Café Comunidad

Grant Patterson moved to Mexico City and found a writing group at Café Comunidad — a half-vegan cafe, half-yoga studio where strangers gather on Wednesday nights to write from prompts for 30-45 minutes, then share.

This collection emerged from those sessions: essays about childhood barbershops, football concussions, jail cells in suburban Texas, Bar Mitzvahs, and searching for an authentic self.

Patterson writes with humor and unflinching honesty about family, race, sports, addiction, and what it means to keep showing up — to the page, to yourself, to the people you love.
