30 March 2009 - Farm animals in intensive farming systems are frequently exposed to oxidative stress, which is caused by several factors, including nutrition, environment or even ethological stress. Dietary oxidative stress is provoked by the ingestion of highly-oxidisable or pro-oxidative substances such as polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), metals like iron and copper, as well as by a low intake of antioxidants.
