Description de l’éditeur

Bodyguard.

Tracker.

Silent Observer.

Life was in the details. The weight of a government issued rifle, the trajectory of a bullet, the speed of the wind—those details were crucial in the Marines. But outside the military, that level of observation was currency, and I was selling my skills to the best security firm in south Florida.

Except I wasn't on a job when I noticed the nervous brunette pushing through the crowded street. Her hair loose, her shirt borrowed, she stumbled in too-big shoes before looking over her shoulder. I didn't follow her glance. I didn't have to. I'd already spotted the muscle after her. The question was if I was going to do anything about it. Before I could decide, her pursuer took aim. It was the wrong move.

Now he was going to find out how callous a bodyguard could be.

CALLOUS is the sixth standalone book in the Alpha Bodyguard Series.

“Callous” (alpha bodyguard 6) by Sybil Bartel

I have mixed feelings about this book. Yes, it was kinda exciting and hot and steamy but it frustrated me. I didn’t really feel a connection between Preston and Mercy. Too much of the story happened in his head, which Mercy knew nothing about. I felt that Preston was much more interesting of a character in the book “Ruthless” than he was in his own book. Too much of his past and how it formed him as an adult was left unexplained and a mystery.

Preston (dorky name) was seriously over patient. It was incredibly annoying. What’s the big deal with the statute of limitations? 7 years. Why? He was unreasonable in his expectations of Mercy. She doesn’t know anything about him. His communication style is frustrating as all hell. Wouldn’t Nash be curious about Preston’s nipple piercings? I guess what this book confirmed was that proper communication skills are integral in a good relationship. Preston didn’t tell Mercy the words he needed to hear (I choose you) and he didn’t explain his actions or let her get to know him. Preston was too complicated a character. I’m not sure Mercy is up to the task.

On an aside, I’m not overly fond of any of the book’s blurbs. They are too generic. I especially hate the ending sentence: “Now she was about to find out how scandalous / merciless/ reckless / ruthless / fearless / relentless a bodyguard could be.”
