Detectives are fine, sure—but when you’ve got a truly unsolvable murder, try putting a mystery lover on the case. The second book in John Grisham’s lighthearted Camino Island series proves once again how multitalented the author of iconic legal thrillers like The Firm is. Camino Winds gives us another delicious murder mystery set on Florida’s Camino Island, where a crime fiction convention has brought a slew of writers and fans to town just as the island’s about to get slammed by a powerful hurricane. And since the police are so overwhelmed with natural disasters, they fail to notice that one of the storm’s casualties—a famous author named Nelson Kerr—actually lost his life to more sinister forces. Thankfully, mystery bookstore owner Bruce Cable steps in to find out what really happened. Along with the suspense, it’s Grisham’s colorful cast of characters who make this book such a fun and page-turning read.

Nice patio read
Needed a quick, light read. This one did it. Decent story (a continuation from Camino Island) and characters.
Poor effort
I love John Grisham’s books, but this one is rather disappointing. Very weak ending in that it just sorta fizzles out.

Not his best
Story seems a bit forced and pedantic, with none of the freshness and suspense of Camino Island. The characters are not as interesting. As Bruce gets bored of his life on the island I found myself getting bored with the book. But ploughed on to the end. Could have done with more editing.
