Canberra is the capital of Australia. It is located in the southeastern part of the country in the Australian Capital Territory (A.C.T.). The state is surrounded by New South Wales and Canberra is about 150km inland from the coast. The city is 580m above sea level. Most cities have evolved somewhat chaotically but Canberra is different. From the outset, Australia's capital was centrally planned and designed by professionals.
