A biography of Captain Dan Jones, an early Mormon missionary, riverboat captain, and friend of the prophet Joseph Smith. He was captain of the Mississippi riverboat "Maid of Iowa" which serviced many Mormon settlements along the Mississippi River. The night before Joseph Smith Jr. was martyred, the prophet promised that Jones would not be killed by the mob. Thereafter, he fulfilled two missions to his homeland, Wales. In addition, he became the first mayor of the Utah city called Manti and was also involved in surveying the Southwest with Parley P. Pratt and others. He served a full life and was an example to all of a life dedicated to the Kingdom of God.
