Outside the window of elderly sisters Rachel and Jennifer Murdock's Los Angeles home, a suspicious bandy-legged man is spying on a house across the street—prompting the siblings to spy on him. They never expected to see the man struck by a car, whose driver stuffs his body inside the vehicle and races away.


 


Assisting LAPD Lieutenant Stephen Mayhew in the investigation, Rachel and Jennifer help search the apartment the bowlegged man was so interested in and find the tenants gone. They also uncover clues that lead the trio—and the sisters' cat Samantha—to the small mountain town of San Cayetano. There, they encounter a group of suspects disputing legal claims over a piece of property—and discover multiple motives that could link one or more of them to murder . . .
