What a truly MAGNELFICENT book!!! Right from the cover I was drawn in, but that was nothing compared to just how blown away I was by the story itself! I was instantly captivated and caught in its magical spell from beginning to long after I reached The End!! I was swept away into another time & place right along with Mia, a place that is both magical, beautiful and scary! In fact I think that Paula herself said it best “Theirs was an instant connection, an inescapable union of body, soul and sorcery” EXACTLY my feelings and connection to this book, its characters of every species, the world, the series, just ALL OF IT!! This series is as precious & as beautiful & as magical & as rare as the Dragonstone itself!! In fact I wonder if Mia, Kort, Magnus, and the rest of Team Castle Elias cast a protection spell to end all spells that turned the precious Dragonstone into this epic & MAGNUSIFICENT book! It truly is that ABSO-ELFING-LUTELY priceless! There are so many - too many to count or list even - WINGTASTIC, amazing, magical parts to this story, but in my opinion, the best part (besides the entire story!) is the dragons! I ABSO-ROARING-LUTELY love everything about them! Their different & individual abilities, their personalities, or dragonalities I should say, just EVERYTHING!! Paula has done a DRAGONTASTIC & creatively AMIAZING job bringing them to life! In fact, Paula has worked her magic on every little scale of this story & series! PURE GENIUS! I love, Love, LOVE it and I can’t emphasize it enough! I do highly recommend you first read the shorter book 1 – Dragonstone - a lot of what happens in there will give you the background information for what happens here in book 2!! Besides… don’t you want the most out of your reading experience? I can only hope, pray & beg that Paula has many, many more adventures planned for me in the Kingdom of Chalvaren because I NEVER, EVER, EVER want to leave!! There were a few parts that literally brought me to tears they were so magical & CLAWESOME & wondrous! Paula's vivid & vibrant descriptions bring this story to life like no other! The details, the numerous aspects of daily life, the small parts, even some that may seem inconsequential really aren’t! They all help to paint the entire picture in full colors, bright & bold, breathing life into and enhancing the "major" parts, making this a TRULY SPELLBINDINGLY STUNNING MASTERPIECE ON EVERY & ALL LEVELS! And the full color map of The Kingdom of Chalvaren is not only gorgeous, but I referenced it a few times while on my journey just to get a more realistic visual of where I was going! Thank you Paula! With this detailed map, I didn’t get lost or captured! :) The fantastical brilliance of Paula's storytelling, her writing style and creativity not only turn this DRAGONTACULAR book into a living adventure in my mind's eye, but it also speaks to just how phenomenally talented & exceptionally gifted she is! I not only read and watched the story happen, I LIVED IT! With the help of my new friends, I was transported through the portal to the most MIARVELLOUS and INKORTIBLE place! I helped save Magnus, found my One True Love in Kort but I still couldn’t help thinking that this was all too good to be true and that the perfect man that had come for me today, along with Magnus and everything else ROYALTASTIC would all disappear once I opened my eyes, that I was dreaming it all and... ummm, wait, that was actually what happened to MIA, not me! I told you I felt like I had truly experienced it all, that I was REALLY there in The Kingdom of Chalvaren! wink Paula has done what very few authors can do - write a fantasy story & series that resonates within me just as deeply as Mercedes Lackey’s Valdemar books do! I have to say that this is THE BEST fantasy book I have read since I first discovered the genre with Mercedes Lackey! Excluding Mercedes’ books, that is. :) Maybe this is a bold statement but it doesn’t make it any less true! I ABSO-FLYING-LUTELY love, Love, LOVE THIS BOOK & SERIES! This book reaffirms my love for fantasy stories and reminds me just why I fell in love with these kinds of books in the first place, and why to this day I am STILL in love with Elves, Dragons & magic all things Fantasy!
