Charlotte Bronte: Jane Eyre

Jane Eyre is Charlotte Bronte's first published novel, and her most celebrated work.


It is the story of an intelligent young English girl, an orphan, abused by her aunt and her cousins and much of the world around her. 


Through it all she remains strong, refusing to allow the world to crush her spirit or her strength of will. 


Filled with social criticism and the sinister Gothic elements that helped define a genre, Jane Eyre is above all a story of a woman's quest for freedom and love.
