Chart v. Dvorak and Another

This case involves a one-car accident where a passenger guest was severely injured when her host left the road and crashed into a power pole. She now attempts to sue two Wisconsin highway commission employees for negligence in connection with the placement of a warning sign in advance of the intersection where the car left the road. The accident occurred at approximately 11:15 p. m. on July 30, 1966, at the right-angle intersection of State Highway No. 70 and County Trunk No. 155 in the village of St. Germain, Vilas county. Richard Gutmann was the driver. There were five passengers, including respondent, Penelope E. Chart. Returning from the Bronco-Beer Bar to Eagle River, Gutmann failed to negotiate the right-angle curve at the intersection and the car left the road and collided with a highway sign and a power pole causing Miss Chart to be thrown from the auto. She sustained serious injuries.
